In the Stacks at the Windham Public Library - By Jen Alvino

It’s official! I am very pleased to announce that our library has been accepted into the Minerva consortium. Minerva is a shared library system that brings together many libraries of all types from across the state. This is an exciting opportunity for both the library and the Windham community. By joining Minerva, we will have advanced software for circulating materials and searching for and placing holds in the online catalog. We will also have access to millions more items that will be shared from over 60 Maine libraries. These items, when requested for delivery through the catalog, will be delivered by van delivery service in a matter of days. This has been a goal for this library and something we have worked toward. It’s very exciting to finally make the transition!

Staff members have begun to meet with consortium staff members to begin the technological transition of software. We will be up and running by December 1st. This date is coming up quick and we ask for your patience as staff members learn the new software and manage the additional workload. We will share more information and announcements when we know a firm date that we will begin using the software. Likely, we will close a day or two for software training and transition between our two programs.

Library staff members look forward to showing you all the consortium has to offer. Our November newsletter will share some of the changes you will see. We are hoping for a smooth transition and want to prepare you with information about how the changes will impact you.

Be sure to visit our website www.windham.lib.me.us and Facebook page for the most up to date news and information about all our programs.

I hope to see you in the library soon!
