A day at the beach benefits theraputic riding center

CAPE ELIZABETH – Sunday, July 24th was a perfect day for the beach - both for the humans and the horses who participated in Riding To The Top’s 13th annual Barn to Beach Ride-a-thon. This year’s event was held at Breakwater Farm in Cape Elizabeth and started with an hour ride on the trails, moved onto the beach for a dip and finished with lunch (gourmet salads for riders; hay/ apples/ carrots for the horses!). Over $13,000 was raised this year, bringing the 13 year total to nearly $150,000.  Executive director Sarah Bronson reported that “This event funds equine assisted activities and therapies for people with disabilities – all who participated understand the benefits of spending time on our horse(s)”.  Most of the riders brought their own horses but a handful of RTT staff and volunteers rode RTT horses. Bronson noted that the change in scenery is good for the horses “Not only traveling on new trails, but time on the beach and in the salt water is great for them!”

The event was hosted by Jeanette and Mark Hagen of Cape Elizabeth, longtime supporters of Riding to the Top Therapeutic Riding Center.
