Starting Friday, November 15, Windham High School presents its fall production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum," a musical comedy about slavery, love and manipulation based in Rome. The show will run for two weekends with the final show on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. All performances will be showcased on the stage of the Windham Performing Arts Center located at Windham High School.
Pseudolus, the sneakiest
slave in Rome played by Brad Meader, has but one wish, to purchase his freedom.
When his master and mistress leave for the day, he finds out that their son has
fallen in love with a courtesan (Ali Wintle) in the house of Marcus Lycus,
played by Matt Scala, a slave dealer specializing in beautiful women. Pseudolus
concocts a deal in which he will be freed if he can procure the girl for young
Hero (Adam Poitras). The various levels
of trickery must deceive a hysterical fellow slave, a masculine and powerful
warrior, and a poor old man whose children were stolen by pirates. Of course, it can't be that simple as everything begins to
go wrong, leading to hilarity and chaos.
“Forum” is packed with one unforgettable song after
another as well as loads of romance and fast-paced slapstick comedy. With beloved tunes such as “Comedy Tonight,” “Everybody
Ought to Have a Maid,” “Lovely” and “That Dirty Old Man,” there will be plenty
of toe-tapping to be had. These Romans are an irresistible mix of naughty, nice
and hilarious.
“Forum” highlights the musical theater talents of over 60 Windham
High School student actors, singers, dancers, musicians and technicians. The production
is directed by Rob Juergens with musical direction by Dr. Richard Nickerson. CJ
Payne shares his talents as technical director and set designer, Vanessa
Beyland of Portland Ballet choreographed the dances, and Weslie Evans created the
costumes. Other featured actors include David
Kaschub as Senex, Jen Bernier as Hysterium, Isaac Forbes as Miles, Rory
Washburn as Erronius, and Johanna Stanley as Domina. Their collective talents, along with a
stacked ensemble cast, make a funny and entertaining show not to be missed.
The show is only around for two weekends and will provide
excellent entertainment with the actors putting all of their energy into the
show.
