John "Jack" Herzig is the
award winner for October 2013. John is the son of Dave and Elaine and he has
two other siblings. John has been on the honor roll all through high school and
takes AP and honors classes. He has received the Elmira Key Award, coach’s award,
All Rookie Award, Scholar Athlete Award throughout High School, Spanish Honors
Society, National Honor Society and belongs to the Teen Trendsetters. He is
also on the baseball traveling team, American Legion Baseball Team (State
Champions) and soccer team for two years. His favorite sport is baseball. Herzig
traveled to Japan on the student exchange with Shinawa Japan and
experience the Japanese life with a sponsoring family. In return, his family
sponsored a student baseball player from Japan. Herzig’s hobbies are reading,
forming a wiffle ball league and watching movies. He would like to attend Bates
College and play baseball for the school. He is undecided on a major. (left)
Alexandria Petcher is the award winner
for November 2013. Petcher is the daughter of Karen Petcher. Alex is the
president of the Windham High School Leo Club, a member of the Spanish Honor
Society and National Honor Society. Petcher has been on the varsity field
hockey team for two years. When she is not in the classroom she is the vice
president of her class and president of the Leo Club. The Leo Club has been
doing spaghetti suppers, stuff the bus, Breakfast with Santa and a Walk for
Diabetes. She coordinated this year’s walk at the Windham High School. Petcher
is very involved with diabetes because her younger brother was diagnosed with
diabetes. Petcher stressed the importance of getting good grades, the future,
being kind to everyone and attending law school. She is unsure at this time of
the college she will be attending. Petcher does all of this and works twenty
plus hours at Pet Quarters. (center)
Philomena Margaret Richard is the award
winner for December 2013. Philomena is a member of the Science Olympiad team, president
of the Spanish Honors Society, member of the Civil Rights Team, involved in Big
Brother/ Big Sister and is co-captain of the Science Olympiad Team. Philomena
is enrolled in AP classes at Windham High School and has been taking chemistry
classes for three years. She enjoys dance, volleyball, track and skiing. When
she is not in class she volunteers at the Greater Androscoggin Human Society,
Tree Street Youth in Lewiston, is a Big Sister, is on the team for Windham
Students against Sexism and Violence. Through the Spanish Honor Society she organizes
scholarships, and on Fridays she teachers a third grade class Spanish as a
teacher. Her goals are to attend UNE and become a pre-med student, become a
physician's assistant and have a career in psychiatry and research and join the
Peace Corps. (right)
