One of my fondest memories is the day the children’s librarian at Ware Public Library in Ware, Massachusetts, took my hand and brought me upstairs to the adult section of the library. I had completed reading all of the Louisa May Alcott books and she figured it was time. Yes, I had graduated to the adult room, but years ago there were not the young adult novels there are now. I did find books to read and gained a love for newspaper and magazine reading.
The public library of today is very different in some
ways, but remains the same in others. There is much more emphasis on
technology, outreach and programming. However, books are still the mainstay of
most libraries, whether they be bound books or books that can be downloaded to
a device. Though libraries are transforming, one thing that will never change
is the importance of customer service and fulfilling the needs of the community
of patrons who use the library.
There is a way to support all libraries in the state
of Maine at tax time this year and it’s easy.
- Go to your Maine Income Tax form - Form 1040ME
- Locate Schedule CP which is used for voluntary charitable contributions to any of the organizations listed. [Schedule CP is also used to purchase a park pass for entry into Maine State Parks].
- Look for Maine Public Library Fund in section A.
- Choose to donate _$5 _$10 _$25 or more.
- Maine taxpayers using the I-File system will also see the Maine Public Library Fund on the Schedule CP voluntary contributions page.
- If you have any questions, see Maine Revenue Service (MRS) or consult your tax advisor.
How do these funds help?
Proceeds
from the 2013 tax check-off supported the purchase of additional ebooks for
the Maine InfoNet Download Library. Depending on our amount of
funds raised, the check-off could also support:
- Expanding interlibrary loan support
- Creating new library programming
- Supporting special consultant services from which all can benefit
- And so much more!
Exciting
things are happening at the library! The library catalog is now online and
available from home. You can also login to view your account online, renew your
books or put a hold on a book you would like to check out.
Go
to the Raymond Village Library web site: You can get there via Google or use
the following address:

Login to the library catalog and
enter your login id and password. This information will be provided to you when
you stop by the library. You can also send an email request to
