Thursday
night the curtain rose on a benefit production of Grease by Windham Center Stage Theater for area senior citizens and
others who want to see live theater, but can’t afford the price of a ticket.
“Our
mission is bringing theater to the community. How else do we do that than give
a benefit performance,” said director Laurie Shepard.
Grease is a lively
show that takes the audience back
to a time when muscle cars were the "it" thing and leather jackets
were all the rage.
The cast has
put in hundreds of hours of work since June, according to Shepard. There will
only be a two weekend run for the show. “We do the show justice,” she added.
The show is
classic Grease with minimal sets and an amazing pit band. The theater is in the
Windham Town Hall, 8 School St. in the gym.
The lead of
Danny Zuko is played by Giovan Corsetti. Sandy Dumbrowski is played by Allison
Sample.
In addition to
Shepard, Robert Chabora heads up musical direction, Mnemosyne Heileman is the
producer and supreme advising is Dawn Sample. The show was choreographed by
Abigail Worthing, Patrice Foley-Olsen is the property mistress, Ed Haibon built
the sets, Michaela Denoncourt did lighting design and costume design directed
by Pat Hutchinson.
The two-hour
play is packed with musical numbers and laugh out loud moments.
Tickets for
the performances beginning on Friday can be purchased by calling 207-893-2098
or at the door. Shows are August 1, 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10. Friday and Saturday
shows are at 7 p.m. and Sunday shows are at 4 p.m. Tickets are $12 and students
and seniors are $10.
Be there or be
square.
