Pennell Park, Newbegin Gym and just about every inch of the Gray Town Office campus was transformed into a Halloween wonderland last Sunday. Goblins and ghouls took over the outside basketball court, jack-o-lanterns were everywhere, there were games, and arts and crafts in the gym, refreshments, horse drawn wagon rides and hundreds of costumed kids to enjoy the festivities.
For the second year, the Gray Recreation
Department helped to repurpose more
than 800 of the thousands of jack-o-lanterns that were on display as part of
the LL Bean Camp Sunshine Fundraiser in Freeport on Saturday. For that event,
school children from all around the state carve the pumpkins for display. The
GNG Community Service Club carved more that 1,000 of them, and helped with the
transport to and from Freeport. New to this year’s attractions were the haunted
basketball court and an opportunity for participants to
use duct tape to attach a well
humored Gray Recreation Director,
Dean Bennett, to the gymnasium wall.
Folks lined up and were happy to pay
a dollar for the privilege. All the funds raised at the event will support the
Gray Recreation Scholarship.
