The
Highland Lake Association (HLA) is hosting a Buffer Blitz Workshop on June 13,
2019 from 5 – 7 pm at the Cornerstone Church (lower level) located on Cottage
Road in Windham, Maine. This workshop is open to the public. The purpose is to
update residents regarding best practices for improving the vegetated buffer on
your property.
Keep the Lakes Region area clean |
A
vegetated buffer is the mix of plants, shrubs and trees between your house and
a water body, that serves to filter any potential runoff from your
property.
Since
almost everyone lives in a watershed, this workshop is not to be missed by
anyone in the community. The HLA invites you to learn the best methods for
upgrading the vegetated buffer on your property, particularly if you live on
the shoreline of a lake or stream.
At
this workshop, you will have the opportunity to interact with plant
specialists, landscapers, town staff, and personnel from the DEP, Cumberland
County Soil and Water Conservation District and representatives from the HLA
regarding the best ways that you can improve your property value and water
quality by enhancing and upgrading your vegetated buffer. Food and beverages
will be provided, and the first 25 people in attendance will receive a door
prize.
