Roman Thomas is The Windham Eagle student of the week from
Manchester School. The 10-year-old is in Stacey Sanborn’s fourth grade class.
Roman lives with his mom, dad, brother and sister. His Vietnamese
grandmother lives with them as well. Roman has a pet fish named Albert.
Roman likes math because it can be challenging. He
especially likes algebra.
“When I grow up I want to be an engineer,” he said because
he likes to build things.
“Roman was nominated by his peers for this recognition.
Roman is a hard working student. He has an enthusiasm for learning that is
contagious. It is this enthusiasm for learning that makes Roman stand out from
his peers. Roman’s peers describe him as funny, helpful, intelligent, and
friendly,” said Sanborn
“Roman recently completed a heritage doll project where he
created a doll to represent his grandmother that emigrated from Vietnam. Roman
learned that his grandmother worked in rice fields in Vietnam and that she rode
water buffalos. Roman states that his family is unique because they are from
different countries, they speak different languages at home and their food and
culture are different than what his peers experience,” Sanborn added.
Roman feels that education is important because “if you
don’t have a good education, you won’t get a job. You need money to buy a
house. I like my school because it has enrichment opportunities.”
