Finally, it is spring and the summer season is not far away. Raymond Village Library would like to welcome back patrons who have been away for the winter! If you are to taking a break from raking, painting or any other type of sprucing up you are doing around your house, stop in at the library and take a look at our new website at www.raymondvillagelibrary.org. There you will find information on events for all ages and more.

The library has a pass to the Children’s Museum and Theater in Portland or the Maine Wildlife Park in Gray that library users may reserve and receive a reduced entry fee. Pre-school story times continue on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. throughout the summer. And the Summer Reading Kick-Off will be on June 28^th with a visit from a surprising and entertaining guest so stay tuned. 

On Wednesday, May 13 ^at 6:30 p.m. Kate Flora will be at the library. She is the author of 14 books, including the true crime story Death Dealer and the novel And Grant You Peace, both released in the fall of 2014. Her book, Finding Amy (true crime), co-written with a Portland Maine deputy police chief, was a 2007 Edgar Award nominee. Kate will speak on the intriguing backstory of mystery and true crime writers: Between Fact and Fiction: How Mystery Writing Unearths True Crime Stories and Vice-Versa. Also how the process of writing about the real world of true crime can in turn influence fiction. Free and open to the public. The RVL’s Plant Sale, June 6 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., can use all those extra plants you will be thinning out or removing to make room for new seedlings. By putting aside those plants and bringing them to the library, on June 5, the day before the sale, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., you will be helping to make this fundraiser a success. Perennials are very popular, as are ground covers, flower shrubs, vines, bedding plants and annuals. As a special spring gift to yourself, plan to attend the Raymond Garden Tour, on June 27, which begins at the Raymond Village Library, 3 Meadow Road in Raymond, at 9 a.m. and lasting until 3 p.m. There will be eight amazing private gardens to visit, including a Raymond historic site. Tickets, which are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour, are available at the Raymond Village Library, or online at raymondvillagelibrary.org, beginning May 1.
