According to the Pew Research Center, “Text messaging is the most widely-used smartphone feature but voice/video calling remains popular, even among young smartphone owners; email continues to retain a place of prominence in the smartphone era.”
I purchased a Smart Phone about three years ago. I
thought access to the Internet and other features would be good to have but the
main reason was because I knew I would be able to communicate with my 20 something
daughter, more, via texting. I have discovered that we can have fairly deep
conversations with using fewer words. At least she can. Besides my daughter I
have just a handful of other people that I text and very occasionally. And that
works out okay but I don’t want many more “text friends.”
One of my close friends has a new puppy. I call her
several times a week to get a “pup report” and enjoy hearing the happiness in
her voice. Another friend is dealing with some health issues and I can hear in
her voice how she is “truly” feeling and that matters to me.
Talking with someone face to face or via phone and being
able to see a person’s facial expressions and hearing the tone in their voices
is so much better to the entirety of our conversation.
