The Windham Lions Club in Maine is raising money to purchase a new Eye Screening Vision Camera. The other camera we have been using for 29 plus years is out dated and uses film, then each picture needs to be forwarded to an eye doctor for evaluation. We have screened every kindergarten student's eyes for the last 29 plus years in the school system. We need to raise $7,000 to replace the old camera. When the new camera, which is digital and give instant results (8 seconds), is purchased, we will be able to screen every child in grades k, 1, 3, 5 and 7. The Windham Lions Club goal is to detect students with eye problems early to help families get the needed services.
Why
the Plusoptix? The eye screening machine won the 2014 Reddot award for the ease
of use and accurate reporting. The screener delivers proven accuracy and reliability,
in less than one second, Plusoptix vision screener detects common vision
disorders including: Hyperopia-checks farsightedness, Myopia-check
nearsightedness, Astigmatism-checks corneal irregularities,
Anisometropia-compares refraction of both eyes, Anisocoria-compares pupil sizes
of both eyes, Corneal Reflexes-checks symmetric eye alignment and Strabismus-
checks for cross-eyedness. The proven technology is non-invasive and
easy-to-use from just 3.3 feet away it can accurately screen children starting
at six months old. It provides immediate "pass" or "refer"
screening results. The results are displayed on the screen within 8 seconds and
then can be printed off and a record is stored for the screening to compare the
results.
In 29
years we have screened or rescreened over 4,495 Windham children in the
Windham/Raymond School District.
