Local Scout earns Boy Scouting’s highest achievement by Michelle Libby

Boy Scout Tucker Labbe of Standish was awarded the highest honor in Boy Scouts, the Eagle Scout rank, after 12 years in Scouting. Labbe celebrated his achievement with a ceremony and reception at the Windham Veterans Center last Sunday.

The master of ceremony for the event was John Pride, former Scoutmaster for Troop 805 when

Tucker Labbe's father Ike, Tucker, his mom Barbi Labbe and his sister, Sarah
Labbe’s father, Ike, earned his Eagle Scout rank in the eighties.

To reach the rank of Eagle Scout, Labbe and all Eagle Scouts must complete 21 merit badges, some which involve camping outside for at least 10 days or keeping track of physical fitness for 90 days. All Eagles are required to do a community service project that benefits the community. They also go before a board of adults to answer questions about their Scouting experience and the completed project.

Labbe earned 24 merit badges on a variety of topics. His favorite was shotgun shooting, which he took at Camp Hinds in Raymond. He also completed a community service project in which he created permanent boxes to be used to drop off old and tattered flags so they can be disposed of in a respectful manner. The receptacles are located at the Windham Veterans Center, where Troop 805 meets, at Maine Flag and Banner on Roosevelt Trail in Windham, at the Masonic Hall on River Road in Windham and at the Standish Transfer Station
Labbe is a man of few words, but during his thank you speech, he thanked his Scoutmasters Chuck Libby and Paul Preston and other parents who helped him on his path. Labbe is now 18 and will return to the troop as an adult leader.
Labbe is a senior at Bonny Eagle High School.  He is the son of Ike and Barbi Labbe and he has a sister, Sarah.
