In the Stacks at the Windham Public Library - By Jen Alvino, library director

Welcome to 2015! I have no doubt it will be an exciting year ahead. Here at the library we are looking forward to providing some new services and programs in the upcoming year.

This month we have several programs of interest to our adult audience. Check out our website or stop in and pick up our monthly newsletter for more information on an author visit and a new monthly genealogy program. In addition, our usual children’s story times, our tween and teen movie group, our book group and knitting group continue during their regularly scheduled times. Of special note is our library tea happening on Tuesday, January 27th at 1:30 p.m. This is the 10th anniversary of our library tea.

I want to take this opportunity to recognize, children’s librarian Laurel Parker and reference and technology librarian Barbara Keef, for the efforts hosting this wonderful community event for the past 10 years. They bake homemade items for each tea according to themes that they work together to choose. The teas are a great opportunity for community members of all ages to join together in a welcoming atmosphere to visit with old friends and meet new ones! Thanks to Laurel and Barbara for all their hard work over the years! We hope to see you at this special 10 year celebration later in the month.

Also, in late January or early February, we will begin offering a new ebook service called the 3M Cloud Library. This will be an exciting new collection of ebooks in addition to the MaineInfonet Download Library already being offered. This new collection will only be accessible to Windham Library cardholders and we will choose the titles to add to it. There will be much more information to come about this exciting new service so stay tuned!

Even though winter has just begun, we are starting to think about our plans for Summer Reading 2015. This year’s themes are Every Hero has a Story (Children’s theme), Unmask!(Teen theme) and Escape the Ordinary (Adult theme). We hope many of you join our Summer Reading program this year and we look forward to sharing with you the events and programs we are planning.

I hope to see you in the library soon!
