Saint Joseph’s College Fine Arts Department welcomes visiting artist Cig Harvey

The Saint Joseph’s College Fine Arts Department welcomes internationally acclaimed and Rockport-based photographer Cig Harvey as the second visiting artist in the Speakers, Performers, Artists, and Culture (SPArC) Lecture Series on March 20th.

In a free lecture open to the public, Harvey will speak about her photography, which has been called “visual fiction” or “magic realism.” “Storytelling through Photography” will occur from 6 to7 p.m. at The Chalet, on the Sebago Lake campus in Standish. Her visit, generously funded by the Maine Arts Commission, Morton Kelly Charitable Trust, and the Robert and Dorothy Goldberg Charitable Trust, will also include outreach to high schools in the Lakes Region.

During Harvey’s time at Saint Joseph’s College, Bonny Eagle High School and Windham High School, students will visit campus for workshops and engage in “mind mapping,” discuss visual storytelling, and then use the campus as their backdrop for photo shoots. Saint Joseph’s College BFA majors, will serve as studio assistants and help mentor the high school students. They will also assist with post-production printing in the college’s Mac Lab and exhibit students’ work. 

About the Public Lecture: Join Cig Harvey on March 20th to learn about her work as a photographer and how she captures moments and tells stories through images. 

The lecture is free and open to the public. The lecture takes place from 6 to7 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.) at The Chalet on the Saint Joseph’s College campus on Sebago Lake, 278 Whites Bridge Road, Standish, Maine.
