May the Fourth be with you celebration at the library - By Michelle Libby

Librarian Sally Bannen, dressed as Rey, stands with Jack (Darth Vader) and Reid (Yoda) Edwards and Devon Yates dressed as Princess Leia at the Star Wars celebration at the Windham Public Library last week.

On the fourth of May the Windham Public Library celebrated Star Wars with activities and costumes. In past years a movement celebrating “May the fourth be with you” instead of “may the force be with you,” has swept the nation.

This year the Windham Public Library invited children and adults to dress as their favorite Star Wars character and come to the library to do a scavenger hunt, create a banner and so many more activities. Prizes were donated by Bull Moose and Casablanca Comics.

More than 23 adults and 47 children dropped by the library throughout the day. More than half of the children wore costumes or Star Wars shirts. The most popular activity, according to librarian Sally Bannen, who was dressed as Rey from the new Star Wars movie, was the scavenger hunt.

“Casablanca Comics and Bull Moose donated the best prizes—30 comic books, a movie poster, a DVD, a book bag, and a $15 gift certificate - and there were also some Star Wars Pez. It was wonderful to see so many kids (and adults!) having fun as they hunted for the Star Wars characters throughout the library,” said Bannen.

Attendees voted for their favorite character. Rey won, with Chewbacca and BB-8 close second and third places.
